Slovenly
old hag of the folklore of southern Germany. She had a
trail of children follow her, which were the souls of
dead children or unborn infant spirits. She visited
houses often, especially around Christmas and the Twelfth
Night. If the houses were clean then, she blessed the
occupants, but if they were untidy, she would curse the
household with disease and scare the livestock. She would
also expect food to be laid out for her, and if there
were none, she would open up the stomach of a person to
get it. |
