European sea-monster with the head of a shaven Catholic monk and the body of a large fish. One was captured in the Baltic Sea during the thirteenth century, wearing a mitre and a dalmatica and carrying a corsier. Appealing to several Catholic bishops, it asked to be released. The bishops granted its wish, and after doing the sign of the cross, the Bishop Fish jumped back into the sea. Another was captured in 1531, but it refused to eat and died in three days.
