One
of the fifth class of Jinn in Arabic mythology that were said to be
the sons of Iblis.
Its name literally translates into "horse
leech" or "blood sucking djinn." Ghilan
could change their shape at will, but their feet always
retained the shape of asses' hooves. They often took the
form of seductive women to lure travelers from their
companions in order to devour them. The only way to kill
Ghilan was to strike them with a single blow, since
striking them twice will invest within them new life. In other accounts, ghilan dwell in cemetaries and are described as feeding on corpses or as grave-robbers. |
