Serpentine creature of Mayan mythology that lived in limestone caverns on the Yucatán Peninsula. It was the bringer of rain and the cause of hurricanes. On the vernal and autumnal equinoxes (March 22 and September 21, respectively), it would appear at the nothern face of the temple of Chitchén Itzá.
