Beast of Arthurian legends that had the head of a snake, the body of a leopard, and the tail and hindquarters of a lion. It produced a terrifying sound from its stomach, like that of thirty baying hounds, and was heard by King Arthur shortly after his coronation. Sir Pellinore, a knight of the Round Table, had been chasing the beast all his life and pursued it relentlessly until its death. |
