Human-like creature of Greek mythology, described as having the legs, pointed ears, and short horns of a goat. Followers of the wine-god Dionysus, satyrs have a fondness for unrestrained revelry. They were known to chase nymphs while drunk, and they symbolized many things including mischief, buffoonery, fertility, drunkenness, and cowardliness. They are associated with the fauns of Roman mythology. |
