The Little Boy

"Daddy? What’s going on?" The boy asked. "You have been crying for a long time now."

The father looked up and wiped a tear away from his eye. "Oh, son, it’s nothing someone your age has to worry about."

"Is it another meeting?" the boy asked, slumping with disappointment. "You said you would fence with me!"

"Unfortunately I will be at a meeting but this one will be very important I might not be home until late tonight." The father said as he stood up from his desk. He put a hand on the boy’s shoulder. "I’m going to have to depend on you to take care of Pagan and your little sister today" he smiled and ruffled his six year old son’s hair. "When I come back your getting a haircut young man, I swear if I let it grow any longer you’re going to have to wear a mask so you don’t look like a girl!" He winked and walked to his car outside.

"Wait! Daddy! Who will I fence with?" the boy asked while his father was getting into his car.

"Ask Pagan," the father said. "I’ve heard that he was very good in his day!" With that the father stepped into the car. Before he left, he said to the boy, "Just don’t beat him too hard okay? I love you. See you later!" His car pulled away.

The boy never saw his father again.

Thrust. Parry. Slash.

The boy fenced with Pagan -who he considered more of a friend than a babysitter- energetically.

Cut. Block. Twirl.

The boy’s father was correct. Pagan was a very good in his day, but it wasn’t his day anymore.

Slash. Parry. Sling.

He quickly disarmed him. Disgusted with the duel’s simplicity, he ran over to the cabinet with the foils inside and handed Pagan another one of the mock-sabers. Before Pagan could take it, a baby’s cries could be heard down the hall. "Shall we continue this later?" Pagan asked. The boy nodded and they proceeded off to the baby’s room.

Pagan sang a lullaby to the sobbing baby. "Hey, can I hold her for awhile?" The boy asked.

"Just as long as you don’t mind her crying." Pagan said as he handed the baby to the boy.

Author’s note" You should know who the boy is by now, you should also know what’s going on. If you don’t; you probably haven’t seen episode four of Gundam Wing.

The boy held the baby close to him. She suddenly stopped crying and looked at him with a state of awe. The boy smiled. The crying must of left a ringing in his ears. Wait a second, that ringing was getting louder. He looked out the window and saw…

"Aires mobile suits!" Pagan yelled. He grabbed the little boy’s free hand and ran down the corridor to the front exit. An explosion rocked the castle and the second story collapsed, blocking the entrance. "This way," Pagan yelled as he led the boy to the back entrance which led into the forest.

Later that evening, the boy, Pagan, and the baby watched the news at a hotel 6 just beyond the border. "The assassination of the king of the Cinq has left everybody in shock." The news reporter said. "Also, the attack on the Cinq Kingdom today has resulted in only three casualties. The young prince Milliardo, a servant by the name of Pagan, and a young baby princess named Relena. These casualties were reportedly an accident of a soldier misunderstanding his objectives. Lisa, back to you," Pagan turned off the television. "Lies! All of them!" Pagan yelled "That was a direct assault on our lives!" He threw down the remote which shattered on the tile floor. He sighed, knowing his responsibility. Mr. Peacecraft told him what to do in case something like this happened.

Flashback

"Pagan, I might not come back from this ‘meeting’ today. If that is so, I want you to send Milliardo to a dear friend of mine, Troy Kushrenada, I believe he has a son just a few years older than him. I also want you to send dear Relena to the Dorlians, they can’t have any children of their own I’m afraid…"

End Flashback

The Dorlian’s accepted Relena gratefully and without incident.

The Kushrenadas took Milliardo in. Their young son and he made fast friends.

Pagan left to work for the Dorlians and to protect the young Relena as best he could.
