Home Remodeling 101 The New Room

This was two rooms that our previous owners used as a dining room and a porch that housed the hot tub. Our plans were to carpet this whole area and the cowboy room with the same carpet. That idea has been abandoned after removing the nasty carpet from the cowboy room. A cleaner surface, ceramic tile, will be installed.

We had a mixture of concrete and plywood to work with, all at different levels as you can see in the photo on the left.
We used Armstrong S-183 floor leveler. It comes in 10, 20 and 40 pound bags. This stuff is *very* fine powder and clumps easily. Since we don't have the proper mixing tools, we improvised. The easiest method for mixing was using small amounts in a plastic cat litterbox. This stuff sets up in 10 to 15 minutes so mixing up smaller amounts made for a smooth substance that dried hard in about an hour. The photo on the right is after only one application. This stuff can be layered and feathered to a 1/8 inch thickness.
