I can't say I've been to outrageous places in skimpy running shorts, but I did feel a bit out of place in the following locations...
The public library: several times, in the hot summer, I would wander into a public library and browse books about running. Several running books date back to the seventies or eighties, and they tend to contain lots of photos of people in short running shorts. It is nice to take a look at a time when guys wearing short shorts was no big deal.
An office: once I went into an office to help some women I knew who had a problem with their office equipment. It was very hot that day and I decided to stay in my short cotton shorts. I didn't stay at that office for long, so most of the outing was still outside in the heat. I knew that those two women would not mind...
The grocery store: it's not so daring to go to a store in running shorts, but the fact that it's often cold in a grocery store makes the short shorts particularly unusual.
A move: once during a move from one appartment to another, I switched from pants to shorts in the middle of the day because it would be so much more comfortable for that kind of physical activity. One hired mover commented on my change, but didn't say anything against it.
I'm sure some of you readers have been much more daring than I've ever been...
