| Mustang History The Mustangs were formed by college students back in about 1997. As a college team the team has seen many players come and go over the 7 years since its beginning. The Mustangs played for years non-league games against other colleges and various teams. For a short period there was a small college league. However, this did not last due to the weak structure of baseball in the UK and college teams being run solely by students with no official coaches. In order to play, for 4 years the Mustangs went to Bezier France to play in the Bezier International Baseball Tournament. Teams came from all over the world and the competition was very tough, but a valuable experience for the Mustangs. With a growing desire to play more baseball the Mustangs due to the hard work of its President and Vice President applied to and joined the British Baseball Federation entering Division 1. The first season had the Mustangs by no means finishing in last place but wins were hard to come by. The second season in the BBF Division 1 brought more success to the Mustangs finishing in 4th place. Once again Fall training has resumed with what appears to be some very promising new players and as they improve their fundemental skills throughout the offseason things look very good for the 2005 season. All the other teams in the league are city teams and can recruit player from where ever they want. However, we as a college team can only recruit students, Alumni and students and Alumni from associate colleges. |
