PRESS
RELEASE
The Regional Statistical
Coordination Committee (RSCC)
of the
Regional Development Council
(RDC)-IX will meet on May
28, 2001 at
the Conference Room
of NEDA. It
will be attended by the
heads of
major line agencies, local government units and
private sector representatives.
One
of the agenda of the
meeting will focus on the strengthening of the submission of social welfare statistics by the local government units (LGUs)
to DSWD-Regional Office.
It has been noted that since the
implementation of Local Government Code,
the LGUs find
difficulty in
absorbing some of the functions devolved to them by the regional line
agencies. Hence,
effective planning
of poverty alleviation
programs and projects has been hampered by
inadequate and outdated data .
Likewise,
a project proposal for the conduct of a study on the social and economic impact
of armed conflicts in
Regions 9, 12 and ARMM will
also be discussed in the meeting.
The result of the latest Family Planning Survey conducted by the National
Statistics Office (NSO) will also be presented for information.
The
RSCC is one of the Special Committees of
RDC-IX, with the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB)
as its Secretariat. Among others, the Committee provides a more focused
attention on statistics as a tool for
better planning and
programming of
public funds. Targetting
the intended beneficiaries, who and where they are and what is the
magnitude of the problems, can
be facilitated by having accurate
and timely
information (Susan
C. Valerio, NEDA-IX).
