PRESS
RELEASE
The Social Development Committee (SDC) of the Regional
Development Council
(RDC)-IX, chaired by Dir.
Parisya Taradji of DSWD favorably
accepted the application of
the Technical Education and Skills Development
Authority (TESDA) as a Special Non-Voting Member (SNVM) of
RDC-IX. The
resolution was
passed in
its May 23, 2001 meeting
at NEDA Conference Room.
The resolution will still
be deliberated by
RDC-IX in
its meeting
on June 21, 2001.
Section
3 of
Executive Order (E.O.) No. 325
issued on
April 12, 1996 by former President Fidel V. Ramos provides that “ … The
RDC, subject to the concurrence of majority of its regular members, may
designate special non-voting
members to the Council.”
At
present, the inclusion
of the
National Food Authority (NFA),
Zamboanga Freeport and Phil. Information Agency (PIA) as special non-voting members
in the RDC, has
been approved by the
Council, although Dir. Omoso of PIA
has not
done oathtaking
yet.
E.O.
325 enumerates the regional line agencies
which can be the regular
members of the RDC. Hence, not all government agencies are members of the
RDC. However, the four
Committees of the RDC can include other agencies which are
not listed in E.O. 325 (Susan
C. Valerio, NEDA-IX).
