Cyberspace has many interesting characteristics. The most obvious one shared by almost all forms of the online environment (be it the Internet, WWW, BBS, etc.) is the complete and total lack of concrete identity.
Go into a chat line at WBS, KDF, AOL, etc. and you can be ANYONE. (BTW- at KDF I'm Panthera Domesticus... stop by and say howdy) Online you have no gender, no age, no race, no personal hygeine habits, no class status... you're merely words on a page.
I think that this environment could be very alluring to those living in the public eye. You no longer have the pressure of having to live up to what everyone expects of you, because not one knows who you are... and no one expects anything from you. Sit down, Log On, set your stardom aside and just be a normal person for a few minutes.
Though those few egomaniacal arsewhores that call themselves celebrities be forwarned... I myself have met 3 of the SpiceGirls, David Hasselhof, AND Elvis online. (Was that sarcasm? Why YES I think it was) Because you have no proof of your identity claiming to be anyone important, whether you are that person or not, will be met with skepticism... so ye of easily bruised ego stay away.
Being words on a page you are defined by your words. If your word protray you as a vapid immature airhead it doesn't matter if you've got 2 PhD's and a Mercedes... you're a vapid immature airhead. It's really mildly amusing to visit the NewsGroups of s'posed "serious" universities and read some esteemed professors from around the world calling each other names and otherwise shootin' the proverbial shit. It's also mildly amusing to see a 15 year old win an argument with one of those esteemed professors.
Random Poll: Who wants pictures?
you know... I'm really starting to get bored with this... Sure I started out with the high and mighty concept of updating every single day and we've all seen how long that lasted. It's really not ammusing to find that all that you ever really wanted to tell another person takes up a whopping 7MB. I expected to get a response of some point from any readers I may acquire along the way. I really don't like the idea of monologue... I prefer conversational give and take... where people can ask questions... points can be debated... this has a wonderfully cathartic effect but it's really not very interesting for myself after I've run out of things that rub me the wrong way... I guess I'm just too tolerant for my own good... Heh... anyways... for those of y'all who might check back often (yes BOTH of you) I think I'll be switching to once a week... or just randomly as I get something I feel like talking about... damn... I think I've rambled on longer than the actual rant... Eh... bugger all...
