Boy Child

You were my first born child so small and sweet
I looked in your eyes, my life was complete
You gave me purpose, you gave me love
You were my special gift from the great one above

I watched you grow as I held you near
I knew the time would come, it was my greatest fear
To see you become a man and not my little joy
I had prepared myself to let go of my little boy

But never in my wildest dreams
To lose my child forever it seems
The boy child I held in my arms so long
Is not the same person, who has he become?

His tender way has turned to hate
His smiling face changed by fate
His loving touch is gone for good
But I'll always love him like a mother should
