Many of my recipes come from chetday.com, which provides free emails chock full of recipes and ideas, and offers a section for requests, in case you are looking for a recipe that someone might have.
This list is of products that are milk-free or lactose-free, though I will usually stick to milk-free, for personal preferences.
- Butter Alternatives
- Smart Balance light: Actually lactose-free (says so on package)
- Veggie Butter: comes in small tubs, tastes very close to butter, but, like all margarines (in my opinion), it still falls a little short to the taste of real butter. Melts very well, though.
- Cheese Alternatives
- Galaxy Food
everything made from organic tofu (contains casein):
- Veggie Shred: shredded cheese alternative, in flavors like cheddar, mozarella, and even mixes. Melts very well.
- Veggie Slices: slices in flavors of mozarella, cheddar, swiss, monterey jack, and many more
- Veggie Topping: Parmesan cheese alternative, very realistic.
- Tofutti
- Milk-free casein-free cheese, in several flavors, including cheddar and american cheese
- I didn't like the american cheese. It had the flavor and consistency of plastic, and didn't melt at all, only sweated, when heated.
- Available in ice cream, in various flavors. The chocolate was satisfying, especially drizzled in chocolate!
- Milk alternatives
- Soy
- Westbrae Natural
- West Soy Plus: good milk-like consistency, good for cooking, & somewhat reasonable priced
- Available in plain, chocolate, and vanilla
- White Wave
