This weekend I didn't make as much progress as I had hoped. After the sixth and final coat (I've applied them really thin), I cut the fiberglass overhang with a simple utility knife-- no challenges there. I was also able to install the deckbeams without strain, and even made a template of matching radius. The real challenge came in planing the sheer clamps. I thought this step was going to be a cinch, but rather it's taking me A LOT LONGER than I had anticipated! In the interest of preserving my sanity and obtaining a healthy dose of sunlight, time in the workshop on Sunday was cut short by a midday hike in Trabuco Canyon. Afterwards, I was able to return to the boat ready to plane for another couple of hours more.
I will continue planing either Wednesday, July 3, or Friday, July 5. I am anxious to get the deck in position, and will do so by the 7th!
