Saturday morning I glued the two pieces of the forward deck with epoxy thickened with Cab-o-sil. I remembered to use cheap-packing tape to mask the joint, and wrapped it in wax paper to prevent it from sticking to the adjacent surfaces. I think 2.5 gallons of water should be sufficient weight on top of the joint while it cures. I could've filleted the bulkead, but instead I had to escape my dismay at the flatness of the aft deck and decided to take a break from the boat. A walk through Palisades Park was a welcome relief, and then to Temescal Canyon in Malibu for an invigorating hike!

In short, I wasn't very pleased with the results of my last visit to the workshop. I also didn't remember to place wax paper underneath the aft deck where it should overlap the forward deck to make the butt joint. I don't foresee that doing it in the reverse fashion would be a problem (i.e., with the forward deck overlapping the aft deck) and then making the cut for the butt joint. More than likely my err was working late into the night, and with much haste-- not the right tempo for bending plywood and hammering nails! I will be careful to avoid a repeat performance on Thursday-- my reunion with the kayak!
