Cobb Caves

The Cobb Caves under St Paul still exist (pix should be showing up shortly). I got curious about their official existence, so I headed down to the Minnesota Historical Society. The nice folks at the reference desk directed me to the Sanborn insurance maps, 1926 (revised 1929). Jackpot!

The microfiche is a bit scratched; thus the vertical lines.

All thats left of the Cobb building is a short hallway, a freight elevator shaft, and the caves below. There's a park on the surface covering up any evidence of the stuff below. The only entrance point is a sewer access tunnel that leads into the hallway. The caves aren't very exciting. As a result we ended up with only two pictures of the caves and a lot of pictures of us rappelling down the shaft.

Ahh yes... the crotch rappel :)
