Video Dubbing: Turn off sound on a movie and have people create the dialogue and action, including sound effects. Act out a scene OR Act out the end of a movie.

Lub-Dubbing: Two persons. Who, what and where is decided upon. Person (A) is the voice of Person (B) who "physical-izes" a scene, an idea, etc.

Salesperson: Students have to sell an object, idea or something outrageous like the MOON!

Reporter: Use newspaper and magazine articles . . . Each student or group has a different article that they have to "report" as if they were a news reporter or anchorperson. Add commercials if you wish!

One Minute Hamlet: 1-3 minute versions of well known stories, historic events, TV shows, movies, etc.

A-mus-ic: Students write a short scene inspired by music that they will act out.

Well, Hello There!/Cocktail Party: Students have slips of paper on their back which names a famous person, animal, etc. . . Students mingle and talk to each other as if they were actually talking to that famous person or animal, etc.

Headlines: Use headlines to inspire a story that is acted out. Maybe the headline is the title of their drama, or the headline can be used as the last words of the scene.

Famous Last Words: Give the students a slip with "famous last words", an idiom or just a familiar saying. Ask them to create a scene where these words are the focus, or the last spoken words of the scene.

Beginning and End: Same as FLW above only you provide the first & last sentence, they fill in the middle & then present.

Vocab Rehab: Vocabulary words have to be used in a skit or scene which is written by the students.

Interpreter: One person speaks gibberish while the other interprets the gibberish into English.

Welcome to Earth! : Describe Earth to an alien OR sell the Earth to an alien OR use "Interpreter" variations.

Mock Trial: Lawyers, defendants, jury and judge put on a trial. Use themes or vocabulary from previous class lessons.

CHANGE! : Student begins a story and teacher interrupts at some point and says, "Change restaurant!" (whatever noun, adjective, etc. you want them to change) & then they continue.

3 Headed Expert or Storyteller: 3 students are the "expert" but can only explain with one word each.

VCR: storytelling or skits where the teacher has control of the situation as if they had a remote control. (FF), (REW), (NO SOUND) etc.

Double Emotion: 2 students stand on either side of the storyteller and yell out different emotions, things, places, etc. that the storyteller must immediately incorporate.

Good News, Bad News: Story chain with alternating Good & Bad news.

Detective/Mystery: Students create characters from basic guidelines (Who?, Where?, Weapon?, etc.) on slips of paper (one slip also says "you did it!")

Who?, What?, Where? IMPROV!: You or students decide the W,W,W and present a short scene.

Pic-Acts: Picture inspired skits. Act out what is happening--before, during and after.

Dialogues /Role plays: W,W,W Written by you or students.

Improv. Tag or Freeze Tag: A situation is created in the circle by a team. They begin acting. When a student outside the circle says "FREEZE!", this student then replaces one of the characters and proceeds to change the scene. This can also be played where one whole team replaces the team in the circle.

Skits: "There's a Fly in my Soup!", "I want my money back!", "I Need a Doctor!", "I don't love you any more!", etc.

Fairy Tales/Fables/Legends: Adapt with new vocabulary, characters, etc.

Stale Fairy Tales: Change the fairy tale to a comedy or the opposite of the original tale.

Story Piece Theatre: Groups have different parts to a story and they put them together and act the story out in the end.

Story Theatre: Use short stories, fables, parables, etc. OR change the characters' personalities OR change the "who-what-where-when".

Radio Plays: Commercials, soap operas, weather report, sports report, news flash, etc. The fun of this is the use of sound effects! Done live! or recorded on cassette.

Poetry in Motion: Act out poems, rewrite them, etc.

Re-enact History: Act out a famous event OR change the outcome of the event OR "What if . . . ?"

Color Story: Teacher tells a basic story. Students have to add as much description, movement and creativity to the story.

Holographic Classroom: Imagine the classroom as another place and/or time. Use for vocabulary building or scene building (description).

Puppet Theatre/Shadow Puppets: The endless possibilities!

Joker's Wild: Act out jokes!

Game Shows: "Win, Lose or Draw!", "Family Feud", "Dating Game", "Jeopardy" etc.

Bag Skits: Using miscellaneous objects they bring (or you bring) to create a scene that has a theme (e.g., a quest, family, space, etc.) Who? What? Where?
