People & Places in Earthsea

People: The following are the major characters in the Eartsea books. If you have a favorite one you don't see, let me know and I'll do a bio write up!

Ged- Also known as Sparrowhawk, Ged is the core person who binds the Eartsea novels together. He's both amusing and courageous, strong and for most of the first book, has kind of a big ol' head about how good he is. He does end up sacrificing a lot, in the end. Its important to note that you say his name with a hard "G" (like George or Get) rather than a soft "G."

Tenar - Young priestess working in the Tombs of Atuan for the Nameless Ones. No friends, no family and a really depressing childhood until Ged comes along and convinces her that she can leave and have a life of her own.

Ogion- Ged's original teacher, Ogion is known as the "Silent Wizard." To me, he's on of the iconic wizards of Fantasy fiction - knowledgable and wise, but willing to let those around him (Ged, for example) make mistakes.

Jasper- Student on Roke whose constant teasing and all-around jerkiness lead's Ged to take the first step towards summoning up the big EEEEVIL in Wizard of Earthsea.

Vetch- Ged's friend from Roke who helps him search for the big evil Ged accidently let loose in Earthsea.

Arren- New character introduced in The Farthest Shore, the son of a prince, who journeys with Ged to help him discover what's destroying the magic in Earthsea.

Places: The following are the "big deal" places in the Earthsea books. I've left SOME of them out, because the last thing I want to do is spoil the books for anyone (Go read them now so I can add more to the site, ok?)

Gont- Ged's home island, where he grows up prior to become a wizard.

Roke- One of the larger islands in Earthsea, home of the school where Ged learns to be a wizard.

Tombs of Atuan- Desert-like island, home to the Nameless Ones and the place where Ged first encounters Tenar.
