BFL Profile- Buttonwood Gamblers

February 26, 2003- Each week, leading up to the 2003 BFL season, there will be a look at each BFL franchise, with the player's own perspective on the 2003 Season. Here is the 3rd BFL Profile.

"I will never be pleased until I win it all. I want to finally win the big one which I know I can do."- Mark K.

In the playoffs last year, Mark saw his 2nd opportunity for a BFL Bowl appearance slip away as Rich of the Dragons caught a miraculous pass over Mark's finger tips. In a game that the Gamblers battled back to take the lead, Mark knew he'd have to wait another season for his chance at the BFL Bowl Championship. Mark commented, "I was angry at myself, because after working so hard throughout the course of the game, to advance to the championship, I allowed myself to be beat on a lob pass that I should have blocked." Mark noted that, "I will use last years loss as some motivation; but not too much because I am always motivated to win at any cost."

So what makes this Gamblers team better this year than in the past? First off, Mark has been working this off season to better his game. "I'm working to improve my quickness and jumping ability." Mark's put up the most points last season but gave up quite a lot as well. "I was beat to often on passes that I should have been able to deflect or intercept which I plan on changing for this season." If the Gamblers limit opponents scoring, there can be some blowouts this year.

As for this year's schedule, Mark plays the Crusaders, Fear, and the Icebergs. "I think that I will win the first two games, seeing as I already beat them both." Mark's has reason to justify his remarks too. In his past meetings against the Crusaders and Fear, Mark held leads of 12 and 17 respectively. But the game that Mark is looking forward to the most his against the Icebergs. "The Icebergs game is the one that I am looking forward to the most for two reasons. The first being that I want to show this rookie what its like being in the league. And secondly and more importantly is that I've known Mark C. for quite some time. So this game will be the most personal that I've ever played in." The Gamblers and Icebergs square off in the season finale.

And during the Gamblers season, Mark has set a few goals for him self. In fact, he feels it's just a matter of time before he does. "This year I will set the record for largest average win, I will join the group of 3-0 teams, and I will win the championship." Three ambitious yet realistic goals for the Gamblers.

Mark stated that his motto for this season will be, "Only the strongest win, the weak finish last." If that's the case, look out league, the Gamblers are coming through, I wouldn't bet against it.
