April 1, 2003- Please note that the opinions expressed in this column may not represent those of the Beginners Football League.

INTRO
The 2003 BFL season is coming closer each day with the start on May 17th. Now, normally, I type out the articles on the web site from an un biased standpoint, leaving out my personal opinion. This new column, A Bird's Eye View, is a chance for me to add my two cents. So I hope you enjoy my predictions and out look on the 2003 BFL season.

UNPREDICTABLE
This 2003 BFL season is unpredictable. While unpredictable is quite a general term, I seriously believe that any one of the eight teams can beat another team on any given day. Unlike in some years in the past, you can't look at a match up and already know the winner. Here are 10 reasons why this league will be tough to predict.

1. Sparrows- True, I am coming off of a championship run and really have nothing to prove, but I think it is safe to say that I am still a tough team to beat.
2. Gamblers- Mark really wants to be in the BFL Bowl and really deserves to get their. With the Dragons gone, he will have an excellent shot.
3. Fear- Sean plays really hard, kind of like me, during every game and will not lose without a battle.
4. Sand Storm- Charlie is not the same player as he was 1 year ago. Charlie has great endurance and will be in every game he plays.
5. Black Knights- John missed the playoffs last year and, is a playoff team. He is too fast to slow down. And his uniform modifications make him better.
6. Bulldogs- Based on what Andrew told me, he doesn't want to miss the playoffs for the 3rd time in franchise history. And he is certainly inspired to get in the post season.
7. Crusaders- Rich went 3-0 last season, but was he really a 3-0 team? Will we see the real Crusaders this year or are the Crusaders for real?
8. Icebergs- After Mark's Photo Day performance, he is instantly a contender for the playoffs.
9. Howie Gogo- With all the players 1 year older, bigger, and stronger, Gogo is going to have to "kick it up a notch." I think Howie's is certainly capable of doing so.
10. Five Team Playoff Format- Who will make the playoffs? Who will miss out?

As you can see, there are some real questions that will be answered during the BFL season. It is going to be tough to see who makes the playoffs, but my prediction will be below.

INTERDIVISIONAL GAMES
Don't take it personal if I do not pick you to win. I am just trying to make some picks. Hey, for those of you who I pick to lose, prove me wrong if you want. I hope you do. It would just prove how unpredictable these games really are.

Throwoff 2003: Sand Storm versus Icebergs
First off, I credit everyone for voting this game as being the Throwoff Game. I am really excited to watch this one. Charlie and Mark are going to bring it all to this one. I am optimistic that this game will be a nail biter. However, I think Mark is going to be the first expansion team to win his first game since 2001. Final score, 77-73 Icebergs. Don't worry Charlie, you'll be fine!

Gamblers versus Crusaders
I don't know which Crusaders team is going to show up for this one but I can take a guess. I say Mark capitalizes on an interception, and takes a 2 score lead early in the forth quarter. Gamblers will win this one over a deflated Crusaders team 81-72.

Bulldogs versus Black Knights
This is an interesting match up. The two fastest teams in the league go at. John however is just a bit faster. I say this will be a see-saw game with the lead changing hands on every score. But the Black Knights will score last to edge the Bulldogs 66-63.

Fear versus Sparrows
Sean and me go at it. I played him in an exhibition game and we tied at 21. I think this game is more important to Sean than it is to me. There's always room for an upset and here is one of them. Fear beat the Sparrows 74-73. I will, of course, do my best to prevent this from occurring.

PLAYOFFS AND BFL BOWL VI PICKS
Now, this can be way off or dead on, but here goes nothing.

5th Seed- Black Knights
4th Seed- Sparrows
3rd Seed- Icebergs
2nd Seed- Sand Storm
1st Seed- Gamblers

The Wild Card Game-Black Knights defeat the Sparrows
Semi Final Game A- Icebergs defeat the Sand Storm
Semi Final Game B- Gamblers edge the Black Knights in Overtime
BFL Bowl VI- Gamblers defeat the Icebergs and win first BFL Bowl.

END
During the Season, I'll write another opinion column. For all we know these picks could be way off target. We will find out soon. This has been A Bird's Eye View, so long!
