May
8, 2003- With the Big start of the BFL season a little over a week
away, now is a perfect time to get you updated on whats happening
around the league.
Quarterback
Situation:
With Howie "Gogo" sidelined for the start of 2003, rookie
quarterback Corey L., has been announced as the quarterback for
Throwoff 2003. Corey is a Graduate Student at Rutgers University.
He may quarterback anywhere from 1-4 of the first 4 BFL games. Other
possibilities for the other 3 inter-divisional games are Brandon
S., Mr. K. Brady, and even BFL Broadcaster, Jason D. The official
starters will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
BFL
Mailing:
The BFL recently sent out it's annual BFL mailing. All players and
staff received letter from the Commissioner, and a couple of flyers
about the first games. Mail is always great to get.
Icebergs
vs. Sandstorm:
This is both of these two teams first meeting. Sand Storm last year
went 0-3 and looking to avoid the 0-4 starting record held by the
Mustangs and the Bulldogs. Icebergs could be the first team to win
first game since the Gamblers beat the Crusaders in 2001. The only
other expansion team to start of 1-0 is the Black Knights who went
on to take home a BFL Bowl III trophy. And an interesting fact is
that the last 3 teams to win the Throwoff Game have competed in
the playoffs later that year. However, non of these teams (Koala
00', Sparrows 01', Gamblers 02') went on to the BFL Bowl due to
first round playoff losses. That makes this game that much more
important to these two teams.
What
is that Greenish Surface?
As you can recall from most last season, the BFL field was not in
good shape. Even in the first games, there were big blotches of
dirt without grass throughout the entire field. Any grass that was
present was matted down and brown. However, the BFL is proud to
announce that the Field is in very good shape as of now. Except
for a small area in the Northern Endzone, the field is all green
and healthy. Come Throwoff, it'll look great!
Early
Commentator of the Year:
For this season, the BFL has created a formula to determine Commentator
of the year. It involves the columns posted and the games commentated
and also uses a rating system. Here are now the current Commentator
of the Year Standings [Not including my self.]
