Yellow Bird

A yellow bird sat atop a rickety old wooden fence, singing merrily in the bright morning sun. Passers-by who heard the songster remarked how fitting it was to hear bird song on such a beautiful day and that it filled their hearts with glee. On the other side of the fence though a cat also heard the yellow bird and wished that it could put an end to the birds taunting and teasing. Fortunately though the fence was too high for the cat to reach the bird so that all it could do was flail embarrassingly causing the little yellow bird to sing even louder. The two species must have gone on enacting this scene all afternoon until the sun began to set and both grew tired. The little bird flew to her nest high above in the tree and the cat went back home to his owners for a more easily obtainable meal. Both dreamed of overcoming their difficulties as encountered during the day. However, the next day when the cat made his weary way to the rickety old wooden fence the bird was nowhere to be seen. The cat assumed the bird had flown away to a new garden leaving him to find another way to fill his day. For her part the bird lived happily ever after in a nearby forest full of enchanted trees and a chorus of cheerful bird song.
