US BDU Trousers

These particular uniforms are made in 2 types of material, either in poly/cotton (50% polyester, 50% cotton), which combines comfort of fabric and durability, or in 100% cotton Rip-stop.  Rip-stop fabric was first used in the Vietnam War to help the soldier in humid conditions in which the wearing of synthetic fibres is less suitable.  The cotton fabric must be rugged enough to meet the demands made upon it in military use in a tough tropical climate, yet lightweight enough to be comfortable to wear.  That is why the US  Army has chosen to use 100% cotton Rip-stop material, 20% lighter but as sturdy as poly/cotton.  Rip-stop fabric is a special way of weaving that helps prevent natural run on ripping.
