However, as they were escaping, their ship was attacked and severely damaged. The blast threw it off course, causing it to crash on Earth in the rainforest. Eiko was severely wounded in the crash, so her parents drained all of the little energy they had left from their wounds to keep her alive long enough to fit her with mechanical parts, making her into a half-Android. They died shortly thereafter, and Eiko was adopted by a nearby tribe and the missionaries who lived there, who taught her how to speak English.  As she grew older, she developed a lust for adventure, and decided to leave the forest. She was extremely shocked and unable to adjust to American culture, but was able to survive by making friends with another slightly older girl named Pai, who also had the same abilities as Eiko. They formed a fast friendship, and decided to become partners in their adventures.
