Hope

I hope
That every time you wear those pants, you wonder if I'm wearing them wherever I am;
That if ever you should bring her into your bed, whoever she may be, you will see the little stuffed tiger and remember that "Somebody at Towson University Loves You," and stop everything and cry;
That if you should kiss her you should glance to the side and see the pictures of us together in love, and find yourself unable to continue;
That whenever you surf the internet or IM her, you remember who set your computer up for you;
That whenever you smoke a cigarette, you remember who got mad at you for smoking so much;
That every single thing she does reminds you of me;
That every time you kiss or touch anyone else, you can feel another small piece of my heart shattering into tiny, irreparable bits;
That every time you wear my camouflage hat, you think of me and what we had together;
That every time that little locket around your neck beats against your sternum you find that it is like my own fragile heartbeat;
That every time she touches you, the necklace chain burns white hot so that you cannot bear the pain;
For so long as there is hope,
I shall persevere.
