"Swordless Link" aka the coolest glitch in Zelda 64! If you don't have a gameshark, then this is only possible on v1.0. If you have a Gameshark, then use the above codes. This way, you won't even need the below directions, you'll be automatically swordless.
How to do it:
Beat Ganondorf. Escape the castle, and engage in the final fight against Ganon. He'll knock the Master Sword out of your hands. Now save your game and hit reset. When you start again, you'll still have the Master Sword, but it won't be equipped. Don't equip it, if you accidentally do, just hit reset without saving. Now, when you play, the green icon is blank and when you hit B, nothing happens. The trick is done! Sure, that doesn't sound cool at all, but just keep reading for all the cool stuff you can do while you don't have a sword...
Use all the items while on Epona! Do Swordless Link, and go out to Hyrule Field and get on Epona. The C button icons will dissapear from the top of the screen like usual, but you can use them now anyway.
Easy 2000 in Horseback Archery!
Go start an archery game. Then while you're near some targets, use the ocarina to dismount Epona. Then face the targets (and be sure to put some space between the fence and you, or you might end up hitting the fence) and HOLD Z and press the C button that your arrows are equipped to. While still holding Z, aim at a target. The aiming is very different, especially since it doesn't go to first person perspective. Just point the red tip of the bow at the center of the target (see my screenshot, I'm aiming at the center of it). Then start blasting away using your arrow equipped C button.
Purple Haze - To do this, go to Lon Lon Ranch during the day with Swordless Link, then do Malon's obstacle course. Then during the course, take out the ocarina and play the Song of Storms. Blue Haze - Same thing, just do it at the Horseback Archery range instead. Red Haze - You can do this at either place, just wait until there is a sunset and then do the trick. If you do this one at Lon Lon Ranch, you have to do it while there is a sunset out, and the Lon Lon Ranch music is not playing (in other words, the last possible minute of daylight). If you do this at Lon Lon Ranch while there is a sunset and the music is still playing, something else happens... see below. Note: I found the Red Haze myself. I have no idea if I am the first to discover it, but I haven't seen it anywhere else.
You can do this at the Horseback Archery range. Go to where Gerudo Fortress is, right before the big slope towards the archery range. Start riding up it, then throw a deku nut on your way up. Stand there while Epona continues all the way up there. When she gets to the top, Hit A to mount her. When you are back on Epona, almost everything up there is gone! This is at Lon Lon Ranch. Do the same thing as the Purple/Red Haze trick, but do it when there is a sunset out and while the Lon Lon Ranch music is still playing. Almost everything dissappears, and what is left, has a blueish tint. After the storm stopps, everything suddenly reappears.
this trick is one of the hardest ones to accomplish.
Do Swordless Link, and ride epona to this spot. Then, throw a deku nut to get off Epona (don't dismount her using A, if you do, this trick won't work). Now put on your iron boots and start walking straight ahead (Don't run, you want Epona to stay in the same spot you left her at). Go until you fall off the ledge and are right next to the warp point (which is blocked by ice).
Now for the tricky part. Press A, then IMMEDIATELY press start, and equip your Kokiri boots. If you look in the image to the left, you should be in that area approximately (you might have to turn around and hit Z to face the right direction). Now, you have to change between your Kokiri boots and your Iron boots about every second or two so that you don't float up or sink too far. Now, start making your way towards the spot indicated by the picture.
Now you're under the ice! Be sure you have on the Iron boots or you will float up through the ice and you will have to start all over again. Now that you're under there, you can go check out that "cave", and find out that there is nothing down there.
To do this trick, while you're on Epona with the Swordless Link trick completed, equip your deku nuts and hookshot. Then throw a deku nut, take out your hookshot, and throw a second deku nut. That's it! Link finally realizes he's being watched! When you do this trick, basically the camera gets stuck where Link's head is. It doesn't really put you in first person perspective. If you stand still, link will kinda move around, but the camera won't. So that's why this happens.
This one is funny. All you have to do is get on Epona with the Swordless Link trick, and play Saria's Song. It doesn't matter if you talk to her or not. Afterwards, Link will be riding 3 feet above his horse!
You can have Link on the ground away from Epona, and still control both of them at the same time! To do it, Get on Epona after doing the Swordless Link trick, and simply throw a deku nut (or take out your ocarina and then hit B). Then run around!
To do this one, take Epona to Gerudo Valley. Ride onto the bridge and take out your hookshot and fire at one of the posts on the other side of the bridge, or at the sign hanging between the posts. If the hookshot doesn't fire, get off Epona and get back on. Now it'll work. If you did it right, you'll hear a strange sound telling you the hookshot connected to the sign, but it gets stuck and doesn't retract, or pull you towards it. If you press A now, you switch out of first person perspective, but the hookshot is stull stuck and now you can't move Epona. Hit A again, and you'll dismount, then suddenly start floating in mid air!!! Now you can move link around as far as you want, while he's hanging in the air! Oddly enough, the chain of the hookshot stretches out as far as you want to go. The bad part of the situation? You must reset the machine to free yourself, weather you land Link on the ground or not. The Sky is just a great big cube. Sometimes the camera gets stuck. The tiny, dark dot in the middle of the pic is Link. This trick also works at Lake Hylia. Go near the lab and play the scarecrow song. Then hookshot the scarecrow on the roof of the lab while on epona. You can actually escape this one by having a crow hit you while you're "flying".
Score MUCH less than a minute in Dampe's race! You can get down to around 30 seconds pretty easily, but to get a really low time you have to be really quick and know your way around. Right after I scored 18 seconds here, I did it again and kept it at 4 or 5 seconds, but I just barely missed the last door before it closed. I'll try it again though, my goal is to keep it from going past zero! Here's how to do it: during the race play any warp song, and quickly hit Z and start running again once the game gives you the control of Link back. The click will be stopped for the next 1 or 2 seconds while the "You can't warp here" message is on the screen. So after a couple seconds, do it again. The reason you have to be really fast is because the clock will stop, but Dampe won't, and there is a small amount of time between when the song stopps playing, and when you get Link back up to full speed. So the more times you do it, the farther you will be from Dampe. That's why it is hard to get a really low time.
This one was sent to me from Jess. The Free Floating Rod. This is easy to do, and it probably works on all versions too. Pay the dude, then swim in the pond, and use C^ to look at your fishing rod (use the control stick to look around, you might also have to look downwards to find it). Link isn't even touching it! Yet the rod still moves around along with Link when you move the camera around. I found out that you can also move the rod into different positions depending on which frame of animation Link is in when you hit C ^.
The Floating Sign Trick! Find a sign near a cliff, like this one at Lake Hylia, or the one just inside the entrance of Zora's Domain. Cut it in half horizontally and make the top half fall off the cliff, if you face the cliff, it should fall off the cliff easily. Now face away from the cliff and Z-Target the sign, and press forward and A (or do a Spin Slash). Link should lop off the rest of the sign and you have to make sure that that part stays up there on the cliff next to you. Now play Zelda's Lullaby to make the sign reform. As soon as the bottom half reconnects, hurry and lop it off again. Since the top half is farther away, it takes longer to return, and when it does, it goes back in place where it should be, even though the bottom half is lying on the ground! Note: This was sent in to me via email from Mitch. Thanks!
Fish while running around! You have to have the hover boots. Then walk to the dry land, and run towards the pond. While you're hovering above the water, cast your line. Now you are free to roam around and fish at the same time! If you catch a fish while walking under water (using the iron boots), when the text is on the screen telling you that you caught a fish, Link will fix his tunic and yawn and stuff while holding the fish. This works on versions 1.0 and possibly 1.1, but it does NOT work on 1.2.
Fishing rod outside the pond? Do the above glitch, then hit Z twice so you can see link. Now leave the pond. When you are outside now, you won't have the pole in your hands, only the fishing pole icon will be at the top of the screen. Although if you press B once, Link will hold his hands out like he is holding the pole. Don't try to cast outside, for you will be stuck. You won't be able to move, use any C button items, nothing.
Deku Sword? This is a continuation of the above trick. First, obviously, do the above trick. Now while you are outside, jump in the water and swim for a second or two. Get back on land and press start. When you unpause, you'll have a deku stick on the B icon. DON'T USE IT!!! Don't even hit B once. If you do, your game will totally freeze, except for the music.
See, this is what happens on UltraHLE when you try to use your Deku Sword. On the N64, it won't look like this, it will look like it did right before you used it. After this happened, I hit escape to go back to the UltraHLE window, and there were about 100 errors in the debug window (I'm not kidding). Thankfully, at that point, it still let me at least take a screenshot.
Purple Chickens! Go to the Bombchu bowling alley and start a new game. Knock down the first two walls. Now when you are done with the game, stand near the counter and face the alley. Hit C up and look at the chickens. They're purple! You can also make a dog follow you in if it is night outside and the purple light will shine on the dog also (although not as heavily as it does to the chickens!)
21 Bottles? Yes, this is possible! To do it, find an area where you catch fairies, fish, fire, bugs, anything. Right before you catch the item you swung at, hit start and put another C button item in place of the bottle. Now, the item you selected will be replaced by a bottle filled with what ever you swung at! WARNING: DON'T SAVE!!! If you do, you will lose items forever!!! If you save on anything, only save on the claim check, and the magic beans after you plant all 10, because those items are absolutely useless after being used.
Invincible Deku Stick! Two ways to do this. The easiest is to find a cliff with a gossip stone near the edge, like in Kokiri Forest (other things might work, but I've only done it with gossip stones). stand between the gossip stone and the cliff and hit the gossip stone with the stick. It'll make you bounce backwards and grab the edge of the cliff. When you pull yourself up, your stick is now invincible! The other way is to find a cliff with a wall or something near the cliff. Jump off the cliff towards the wall, swing the stick in the air, and if you break the stick on the wall on the way down, your stick will be invincible. The bad part is, it's half as long now, and you can't kill anything with it.
Go to the Temple of Time as an adult and walk up to the thing that the three spiritual stones are on and press A to read the inscription there. Now get on top of it by doing a backflip. Now stand between Goron's Ruby and Zora's Saphire and face Kokiri's Emerald. Take out your ocarina and play Saria's song. Talk to saria and when you are done, if you did it right, Navi will be stuck in the air above Goron's Ruby. Now when you walk around in the Temple of Time it will get a lot darker. I got an email from Female_Link who told me that you can do the trick anywhere where Navi turns green, for example, after you read the inscription, just play Saria's Song right there!
