Trading Sequences

        Back to OoT

There are two big trading sequences in this Zelda game.  One can only be done as young Link, and the other one can only be done as big Link.

The Mask Trading Quest

You can begin this trading quest once you have shown Princess Zelda’s letter to the guard by the entrance to Death Mountain in Kakariko Village.  After doing this you can then go back to the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Market and get a job as a mask salesman.  You need to wear the relevant mask in order to sell it by showing it to people.  Return to the Happy Mask Shop to pay back the money each time you have sold a mask.

-         The first mask you can borrow is the Keaton mask, which the previously mentioned guard asked you to fetch for him.  Do so.

-         The next mask you can borrow is the Skull Mask.  Go to the Lost Woods and find the lone Skullkid on the tree stump (turn left upon entering the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest).  You will have to play Saria’s Song to him before he will talk to you.

-         Now you can borrow the Spooky Mask.  Go to the Graveyard in Kakariko Village (in the daytime) and talk to the little kid who’s walking around.

-         The last mask you need to sell is the Bunny Hood.  This can be very annoying, as you need to sell it to the running man wandering around Hyrule Field.  Play the Sun’s Song while in the market to make it dawn.  When you then exit the market, keep rolling towards the path to the right of Lon Lon Ranch. You should be able to see the running man now, otherwise you’ll just have to keep hanging around near there until he shows up.

You will now be allowed to borrow any mask, including the Goron, Zora and Gerudo masks, and the Mask of Truth, which allows you to talk to Gossip Stones.

The Biggoron Sword Trading Quest

You need to have completed the Fire Temple and freed Epona in order to complete this trading quest.

-         To begin, talk to the Cucco lady in Kakariko Village, and agree to take her Pocket Cucco egg.  Play the Sun’s Song twice or wait for a whole day to pass for the egg to hatch.  Now go into the house which is directly in front of you when you enter the village from the field, and use the Pocket Cucco to wake up Talon.  Take the Pocket Cucco back to the Cucco lady, and she will give you Cojiro, a rare blue Cucco.

-         Go back to the Lost Woods to the place where the lone Skullkid was to find the depressed punk-style man (who sat by a tree at night in Kakariko Village when Link was small, and appears to be the brother of the Cucco lady and the son of the Boss Carpenter and Granny from Granny’s Potion Shop).  Show him Cojiro and agree to do the errand for him.  He’ll give you a Weird Mushroom that you have to take back to Granny in her potion shop within a time limit.  You can’t warp, as the mushroom will spoil.  If you’ve planted a magic bean in the area with the bridge leading out to the field (next to this place with the punk guy by the tree stump) you can take a shortcut and jump onto the bridge from the plant.  Granny will give you a Strange Potion to take back to that guy.

-         When you get back though, he’s not there.  However, a very strange and disturbed little Kokiri girl is.  Although she is not named in the game, her creators called her “Fado.”  Talk to her and give her the potion.  She will give you the Poacher’s Saw.

-         Use Epona to jump over the broken bridge in Gerudo Valley and give the saw to the Boss of the Carpenters.  He will give you the broken Biggoron Sword.

-         Now get to the very top of Death Mountain, and give the broken sword to Biggoron.  He will tell you he needs some eye drops because of the other day’s eruption.  He will give you a prescription to take to King Zora.

-         If you have not yet unfrozen King Zora, go and get some Blue Fire to melt the ruby ice covering him.

-         He will give you an eyeball frog to take to the scientist inside the Lakeside Laboratory of Lake Hylia.  Unfortunately you can not use the shortcut to get to Lake Hylia due to Zora’s Domain being frozen!  You cannot warp either.  Once you get there, the scientist will make Biggoron’s eye drops for you.  You now have four minutes to take them to Biggoron!  This is the last and hardest part of the trading quest.  Once again, you cannot warp.  The best way is to position Epona outside the doorway of the laboratory before getting the eye drops, then riding as fast as you can to the ledge overlooking the stairs to Kakariko Village, then getting off and rolling all the way to the village.  Keep rolling and side jumping all the way to the mountain and to the top of it (as it’s quicker than running).  Try and take out all the Skulltulas on the climbable wall leading to the summit with some arrows, then using the hookshot/longshot to pull yourself as far up the wall as possible.  Give Biggoron the World’s Finest Eye Drops and he’ll give you a Claim Check for the sword.

-         Play the Sun’s Song six times or wait for three days, then show Biggoron the claim check to finally receive the Biggoron Sword!!!

The Biggoron sword is the most powerful sword in the game, and is very long, preventing some enemies (e.g. Dark Link) from dodging your attacks so easily, and increasing the area of you spin swing attacks.  However, this sword is so big and heavy that it requires both of Link’s hands to hold it (just as the Megaton Hammer does), and so you cannot hold your shield at the same time.
