The civilization of the Kokiri is an old one, having been created thousands of years ago when the Great Deku Tree took it upon him to create a race of his own. His reasons for doing this were lost over the aeons, and the Kokiri themselves were never informed, but the truth of the matter is that he was lonely. For years, the Great Deku Tree lived in the forest, watching over it and all it's inhabitants, and for a long time he was content. However, after a time, the tree became lonely, longing for the companionship of beings who could think and feel like he could. Oh, sure, he had the Deku, but they had mostly gone from him, falling into greed. The allmighty rupee ruled THEIR lives. But true companionship? That was something he had always wanted... But how?
The answer to this question came in the form of a single Hylian girl who had one day traveled to the forest with her parents. A simple trip was all they wanted, a little while away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and their stresses. Unfortunately it was not to be. Shortly after arriving in the forest, a marauding band of Stalfos came their way, thirsting for battle and the blood of innocents. The battle was short, but furious, the young girl's father fighting them off while her mother spirited her to safety, for all the good it did. The Stalfos quickly dispatched with her father and soon chased them down, giving her mother the same treatment, leaving the girl to flee for her life.
She ran and ran for what seemed like hours, though it was probably only for a few minutes, and finally as she got to a very large tree, the Stalfos reached her and began their grizzly work... Or at least they tried. However, the Great Deku Tree had been watching this whole thing, as he was not a great distance away, and his anger was inspired to levels it had never reached before. Acting quickly, almost hastily, the Tree dispatched the creatures of the forest to attack and destroy the Stalfos, stopping them from destroying the girl.
Alive, but barely so, the Deku Tree enveloped her within a seed pod, healing her with his mighty powers. In his great wisdom, the Tree also wiped her memories so she would not have to remember such a horrible period in her life. And, finally, in what might be construed as a selfish act, he gave her one final gift: The gift of eternal youth.
And so, the Great Deku Tree had his companionship. The little girl loved him as her father, quickly adjusting to life in the forest, as it was the only life she had ever known. After a time, the Tree decided to make others, that the girl might have some companionship other than he. Finally the tree did one last thing for his Lost Children - He asked the Goddesses for their blessing, and as a sign of their good will, they sent the Fairies to watch over the children, to protect and help them through their lives.
Oh, and who was the girl, you ask? This girl was the first to enter the forest, the first to live eternal. This girl, was named Saria
- Lifestyle -
The society of the Kokiri is Socialism in it's purest form. Each Kokiri works for the betterment of all Kokiri. There is no greed, no bartering. Everything is shared equally.
Their food gathering techniques are those of the hunter gatherer, as everything they need is provided by the forest. They never hunt or gather when they don't need anything, and they never take more than they need. They are in perfect harmony with Nature.
- Clothing -
The basic dress of a Kokiri is very simple. They usually wear simple tunics and shorts with slip on boots that fit snugly. Headgear is also commonplace, usually a cap for boys and a hairband for girls. The most commonly used colors are green and brown. While they do sometimes wear other colors, they normally stick to these two.
- Combat -
While the Kokiri are not usually agressive, they are capable of defending themselves when they must. They have become adept at using the materials gathered from the forest to their full advantage, making shields out of the mystical wood of their 'father' the Great Deku Tree, as well as collecting Deku Nuts to stun their enemies and Deku Seeds as ammunition in their slingshots, a weapon they have become quite adept at using. Though they are fierce fighters when they must be, the Kokiri are still the second weakest of the world's races.
- Kokiri Names -
From what I've been able to gather, Kokiri names seem to follow a little bit of a pattern. It's subtle, but if you look hard enough, you can spot it.
For instance, if you take the names Kokiri, Deku, Link, Mido and Saria, you'll find that you get an interesting trend. They seem to favor certain letters. Out of these there are 5 I's and 4 K's, along with a slight recurrance of O and A. This suggests that most Kokiri names might contain one or more of these letters. Also, the average Kokiri name will probably not surpass the range of 4 to 6 letters in length.
Some examples of Kokiri names might be - Kari, Fian, Locke, Dina, etc
Kokiri have no unusual weaknesses but they are always paired with a guardian
fairy. No Kokiri can have an attack over level 5. Some have slight magical ability.

The children of the Deku Tree, the Kokiri, are called the lost children. None of their ages are known nor do they seem to age beyond ten years. No one really knows the history of these children except for the great Deku Tree. Sadly, the Deku Tree sprout has yet to grow enough to reach the memories of the old and tell the children of the forest. Mido is the boss of the Kokiri and is the most selfish of them all yet he bows to Saria, the Sage of the Forest. Of all the children in the forest, Saria seems to be the oldest...
