Vampires can trace their
roots to Pagan Mythology, before the Religion of Christianity took hold of
Europe as the main system of belief. I believe, then, that it is safe to say that
'Crosses' as a defense against the Vampire were not always part of Vampiric
Lore - indeed, the Cross as a defense against the Vampire is merely symbolism
of the European Mind throwing off its' Pagan roots and placing their trust in
the Christian Church. So, crosses, as a defense against Vampires joins the list
of Fiction within Vampiric Lore, as it does not find roots in the beginning of
Vampiric Mythology.
