Working Class Heroes

By John Lennon

As soon as we're born they make us feel small,
By giving us no time instead of it all,
Til the pain is so big we feel nothing at all.

They hurt us at home and they hit us at school.
They hate us if we're clever, but they despise a fool,
Til we're so fucking crazy we can't follow the rules.

When they've tortured and scared us for 20 odd years,
Then they expect us to pick a career,
But we can't really function we're so full of fear.

They keep us doped with religion and sex and TV,
And we think we're so clever and classless and free,
But we're still fuckin' peasants as far as I can see.

"There is room at the top" they are telling us still.
"But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
If you want to be like the folks on the hill.

Oh, a working class hero is something to see.

Yes, a working class hero is something to be.
