Atari 7800 Analysis
Tower Toppler Overview
Label Description
Spurred to action by the needs of
your dangerously overpopulated home
planet, you must attempt to conquer
these alien-forsaken relics once and
for all. But it won't be easy! You'll
have to climb each tower all the way
to the top in order to detonate its
vulnerable spot. And, succeeding
towers are more difficukt to topple!
You'll need all your wits about you
to avoid huge, crushing boulders,
giant eyes, and indestructible mutant
molecules! And watch out for those
slippery stairs and disintegrating
ldges. One false step and you'll
plummet to the depths below!
My experience
There's a little slow-down at times, but I like the fact that if you fall, your character can have one final jump and land on a lower ledge. It's kind of nice that you can select a tower to start on by pressing the second player difficulty switch to one side, but if you don't know about that feature it can be frustrating enough for a person to think it's a defective game, especially if you rarely read instruction manuals.
I've played this game extensively and have only noticed one glitch. If you are hit by an enemy at the right time, I have had an elevator platform dissapear making it impossible to advance to the top of a tower, until I died and started at the bottom of the tower again. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played this game, but the odds of you noticing this glitch are slim.
After going thru the entire game, I can say a high score may be tough to beat on this game unless you have a lot of patience. I guess I'm just sorry it has an ending. Many of the 2600 games loop back to the begining giving you the ability to get a high score almost any time you sit down to play. It's a feature I miss the most on modern games.
