My experience
I'm uncertain what kids would get out of this game. After playing it, I understand it is simply telling a story as you figure out the correct course of action. However, some of it is just hit-and-miss. An object usually blinks in order for you to understand where your character should move next. At times, things blink AFTER you do the correct movement. This got on my nerves and made me feel the programmers rushed this game. Fortunately, if you take the time to read the book, you can use process of elimination to figure out your hero's next move, as the book tells you the entire control possibilities.
As you do fail along the way, Borf laughs and says some things to get at you. One or two of his phrases are cut short, though. I don't know if this had to do with the amount of frames or simply that the sound cut out, but I felt like I was missing something. At least sound was accompanied by mouth movement and vice-versa. Some scenes didn't quite mesh with your "incorrect" actions, too... but I guess those are minor things.
Now that I've gone thru the entire game, I might find myself going through to see how much easier it is the second time. I just can't see myself doing that any time soon.
