With human to human organ transplantations being so successful, and the need of organs for transplanting in humans in need being so critically high and increasing dangerously, scientists and doctors alike are looking for other possibilities if not cures, including the idea of xenotransplantation. Although there are conflicts already with xenotransplantation from the media alone regarding if it's religiously or immorally wrong, and animal rights activists complaining about putting harm to animals. The question whether if xenotransplantation will work or not, is still unsolved. If xenotransplantation did work what will be the end result. Yes, the demand for organ transplant donors are increasing dramatically and the public is aware and somewhat educated about this problem, but very little results are coming out from their knowledge. If animal organ transplanted in humans do wok in the future, ultimately human lives will be saved but will we have to risk animal's lives or will animals be threatened with near extinction. What will happen to animals and to humans that have these animal transplantations? Humans each year die awaiting a donor organ. Humans awaiting a donor organ vary from newborns to elderly adults. From those who are generally healthy and took car of themselves but couldn't help that they had a bad heart or other vital organs, to those who did harm to themselves such as alcohol or abused drugs and need an organ. Vital organs are in need for life and the decrease in donors does not help. Human lives are very precious but should we use any means necessary to try to save lives such as xenotransplantation. Taking animal organs to use for our own would seem like something coming out of a science fiction movie. What about animals, can we use their organs and transplant it into humans. Yes we use animals for food or get insulin from them such as pigs and use their insulin for diabetics and other useful medicine made by certain animals but taking actual organs from animal for humans is amazing and is being experimented with currently. Xenotransplantation is a bigger step then using animals for medicine use. Pigs are the subject of choice because of their physiological similarities and their organs being similar in size. Lives of animals can be threatened even more then they already are. Since there is an increase in patients who need a donor organ, will there be a decrease in animal supply if xenotransplantation is in effect. Will there be any animals left in the future? On the other hand if we don't experiment with xenotransplantation there just might be an even higher increase in deaths due to decrease in donor organs. Xenotransplantation has bean in doctors and scientists minds for a long time, but currently is being looked at, at a higher degree. If xenotransplantation becomes a success little if not all people some day will not be in need of dialysis machines, ventilators, or have other complications due to organs that do not work to its capacity. If there are answers to having no less or decrease of animal population, or extinction, then it might no be so bad if we can do xenotransplantation and save lives. If we save human lives people might have a chance of living longer. If we can prevent disease or at least little transmission of diseases or viruses from transmitting from these animal organ transplants, it would be great and will save human lives also. In the long run xenotransplantation might be good or bad but much is to be learned about it. If we understand the benefits and complications to xenotransplantation, we just might be able to work. A lot of research and experimentation has to be done. If animal to human transplantation becomes a success like human to human transplantations are with few complications may not be a reality, but there is a chance it could be done. We do not know what the future will bring, but we hope it will be to our advantage. If xenotransplantation is a success there would be one more question that would need to be answered. The question is " is xenotransplantation immorally wrong". |
