Well if you were told or you get an error on having low resources or you just don't have enough resources free to load a certain program try these steps out.  First you have to get to a program called systems configuration manager.  To do this you need to Click on start, then click on the RUN command in the white box type "MSCONFIG" and hit enter.  Note that for Windows 2000 systems that program is not going to work.  However you can download msconfig from a 98 machine and put it on the WIN 2000.  It will work just the same.

Are you in Systems Configuration Utility yet?  If so you should see a bunch of tabs at the top, follow to the right and you'll see a tab that says STARTUP only.  click on STARTUP and you'll see a bunch of programs that have check marks beside them.  These programs with check marks beside them are the ones that are loading when windows starts in the background.  You may see programs in there such as scanreg "scan registry"  or maybe taskmon "Task Monitor"  Sometimes they have descriptions beside them.

If you want to check out what you need and don't need in there click here for a list of what you do and don't need.

***Please note*** for Compaq and Hewllet Packard Computers do not disable anything to do with the manufacturer.  If you have a HP computer this is a list of what never to uncheck for HP computers.  List, 2nd list, 3rd list  Also for Copaq computers do not uncheck anything to do with cpq or compaq.  Some big ones to keep in there are eaclean, easyaccessbuttons, hidserv.

Have you been told you might have spy ware loaded on your computer?  Don't know what it is?  Click here for a free program called Ad Aware that will take out programs submitting your information to other companies, also knock out program that may be causing pop up windows on your computer.

Done all that and still suspicious, check out to see if you have a virus online!  Virus Scanner
