The Legend
My name is Johnny Dean (Notice the 'ny' on the end.. my name is NOT John) and I am a graduate of Fairmont State University. I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics and a kinda sorta specialization in Computer Security.
It took me four and a half years to graduate because in the spring semester of 2004, I changed my minor from Criminal Justice to Math. (don't ask)
Unlike many other CS people you may know, computers were a foreign object to me for most of my life, right up until my parents finally joined the rest of the world in 1999 and bought a Gateway.
Once I had a chance to use it, I became fascinated by it. I wanted to know everything about it.
Shortly after getting my computer I'd seen a friend writing C++ and that sparked my interests even further. After he explained the basics of C++ and what could be done with it I realized for the first time ever what I wanted to do with my life.
I immediately enrolled in a few CS classes at my high school, South Harrison, where I learned QBasic and C++.
Upon enrolling at FSU, I went into a Desktop Publishing major, which was more art and less programming.
So after a semester of that I switched over to Computer Science, which is where I remained. In 2001, I had to move in with my grandparents and was left computerless for the first time since high school. It was then that I decided it was time to gain some hardware knowledge and build my own computer.
Finally after a month of research, ordering parts, and assembly, I had my own computer. And with the exception of one fried CPU and a few choice curse words, the process went very smoothly.
As of 02/22/05, I am living in Columbus Ohio working for Ethan Interactive. My official title is Associate Programmer II and I do ASP coding for their websites. In my free time, I collect movies, as you may have guessed after seeing my collection, read, aggressive skate, code(naturally), play with Stitch, and watch Law and Order: SVU with my exceptionally beautiful girlfriend =)
I love to learn new things and do so as often as possible. Right now I am learning Windows Game Programming with the book, Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus. A while back, I decided I wanted
to learn HTML and a few scripting languages.. What you see now is a direct product of that desire. Other skills i've developed in my spare time include Macromedia Flash, C#, XML, Photoshop, PHP, and other stuff as well!
