When Phinneas went for the slop drop, Sunny distracted him causing him to be pinned. The Body Donnas became the new Tag-Team champions. In the second pre-game show, the Huckster met the Nacho Man in a 'less- than-one-minute' match pre-taped in a small gym, with a small crowd of senior citizens. Billionaire Ted was the special guest referee. The Huckster used a chair, while Nacho, a shoe. Both apparent 'died' in the middle of the ring. The end result : a draw. [1] This match was originally a singles competition between Vader and Yokozuna. Later, when Johnson and Roberts got involved in Yokozuna's matches with Jim Cornette's team, Roberts issued a challenge to Cornette to have it as a six-man Tag-Team match. [2] The first (and possibly last) Hollywood Back Lot Brawl was not supposed to be a wrestling match in the ring. Although it was to be a live event, the first part of brawl was actually filmed the previous day and shown on the live broadcast of the PPV. The brawl started somewhere in Hollywood, followed by a car chase with Goldust driving a gold Cadillac and Piper, a White Ford Bronco. The saga was to continue after the Undertaker-Diesel match. [3] This match had its roots from the Tag-Team tournament. Before that, Vega was engaged in several brawls with Austin. In the tournament, Vega was teaming with Razor Ramon in the first round. After that, Ramon was suspended and interim WWF President, Roddy Piper, announced that Vega could continue in the tournament with a new partner randomly drawn from a pool. Incidentally, the partner turned out to be Austin. The match pitting these two as partners was in the semi-finals on WWF Superstars, against the Body Donnas. Austin refused to tag in and towards the end, Vega clobbered his own partner. Austin retaliated and caused Vega the match and the opportunity to advance in the Tag-Team tournament. Vega then demanded this match with Austin. In this match, Austin whacked Vega with the Million Dollar belt and applied the Million Dollar Dream for the submission win. [4] This match marked the return of the Ultimate Warrior. The match lasted less than two minutes. Helmsley applied the Pedigree on the Warrior but to no effect. Instead, the Warrior registered the pinfall following a series of clotheslines, a shoulder block, a gorilla press and slam. Remember the Warrior winning the I-C title from the Honky Tonk Man in Summer Slam '88? In the backstage, Helmsley engaged in a brawl with WWF newcomer 'Wild Man' Marc Mero, setting up a new feud. [5] Diesel jacknifed the Undertaker twice in the match but did not make the cover immediately, thus allowing the Undertaker to recover. The end came when the Undertaker blasted Diesel with a clothesline, a choke-slam and the Tombstone for the pin. [2 - continued] Hollywood Back Lot Brawl : The car chase ended back in the ring where Piper, at one stage, ripped off Goldust's suit, who then made a sharp exit from the arena with his manager, Marlena. [6] The winner of the much-hyped Iron Match match was the one with the most number of pinfalls, submissions, etc. in a time period of 60 minutes. The build-up in the weekly WWF shows before the PPV featured footages on both wrestlers' training and interviews. The match lasted the whole 60 minutes without a single pinfall or submission. In the last minute, Hart locked Michaels with the sharpshooter but when the time limited expired, Hart left the ring with the belt assuming that, by default of a draw, he retained the belt. However, WWF President, Gorilla Monsoon ordered the match to continue until there was a winner. Hart questioned the decision but returned for the 'sudden death' period. Within two minutes into 'extra time', Michaels struck two superkicks and score the only pinfall of the match. Hart seemed disgusted and instead of presenting the belt to Michaels, he walked back to the locker rooms. |
