Huxley’s utopian world reflects what our society could be…if we were to be overwhelmed by science and technology. In a world where babies are grown in laboratories and the populace is given rational grams of soma as a daily anti-depressant, the biggest concern for the citizens of the world is to find out what the next virtual reality movie, or “feely” playing is. Bernard Marx is a citizen who, despite his seemingly happy existence, feels that there is something missing. Brave new world tells his tale of revolution and hope in this shallow and surreal world.
Review
This book provides an interesting look into what the future could be. Like any good science fiction novel, it instills fear into the mind of the reader, leaving them with a long list of what ifs. What if the world were so bad that anti-depressants were a requirement? What if we didn’t know any better? What if this is happening right now in our world? I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, or any established member of the science fiction community. It provides an excellent challenge for any mind attuned to our sense of free thought and choice.
