Austin’s title character is a rich and powerful woman living in England during the 1800s. Emma, always thoughtful and helpful to her friends, spends her days trying to play matchmaker for them, but devotes little time to her own love life. She believes that she knows what is best for everyone, but soon discovers that her matchmaking skills are somewhat lacking. Before destroying everyone’s love life (including her own), Emma finds the true meaning of love and friendship, and the book ends on a more happy tone.
Review
Emma is one of Jane Austin’s best novels. All the characters are fascinating and well developed. The book is written well with that Austin wit and charm. The illusive nature of love is completely exposed in Emma Woodhouse’s life as complications and humorous events unfold. If you liked Pride And Prejudice or Little Women, this Jane Austin girly girl novel is for you.
