Guy Montag is a simple fireman…one whose job is not to put out fires, but to start them. In a diluted future where literacy is rare and reading illegal, firemen are paid to burn the houses of anyone who owns books. When Guy meets a young girl named Clarice (Yeah, like Well Hallo…Clarice) he realizes that something in his life- in everybody’s life is missing. He even begins to question the validity of the love he thought he and his wife had. Fahrenheit 451 tells of Guy Montag’s struggle to be different…to learn…to read.
Review
Although I am always partial to Ray Bradbury, I highly recommend this book for anyone and everyone. It is a relatively short book, and it really doesn’t have that sci-fi edge that turns many away from Bradbury’s works. Themes of conformity and ignorance in our own world are impeccably woven in to this novel. Fahrenheit 451 is the perfect book to read for anyone who values their freedom to do so. I strongly recommend this mind-bending book.
