Slaughterhouse Five relates the story of Billy Pilgrim, an optometrist by trade. Pilgrim is basically floating around in time throughout the novel. This occurs because he was abducted by aliens a few years before he tells his story. Billy Pilgrim takes part in the bombing of Dresden and most of the text revolves around this event. He was a prisoner of war, so reliving his memories becomes very painful for him.
Review
Slaughterhouse Five is a simply written book but can be difficult to follow. The author, Kurt Vonnegut, bases much of this book on his own experiences in World War II. This novel is tragic, yet easy to swallow from a reader’s perspective because it often includes the humorous and mundane details of life. I recommend this book for any of you sickos who enjoys pain and suffering.
