The Call of the Wild is the story of a dog named Buck. Buck had been mistreated for a long while before he was sold and moved to Alaska to be trained as a snow dog. He overcomes his painful past to become a strong, well rounded snow dog. He experiences friendship and love as well as growth and maturity. By overcoming challenges like abusive masters and life-threatening cold, Buck teaches us that in the end, perseverance is the only key to survival.
Review
The Call of the Wild is an action packed adventure book. Jack London wrote this book without knowing that it would soon become his most published work. We are taught important lessons in this book, and by a dog, no less. The messages of survival and spirit that London so frequently portrays are of course present in this novel. I recommend The Call Of the Wild for all Jack London enthusiasts, or even those who just enjoy adventure outdoors.
