Review of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House

Shirley Jackson’s most widely known book tells the story of four guests in a supposedly haunted house. Although they are under the impression that they are there for a routine psychological study, they are actually being observed for their reaction to the ghosts that inhabit Hill House. The guests soon learn of the house's shady past and begin to notice changes not only within the house itself but within each other as well. It's an "A" level book and the test is a piece of cake. Take it to the bank.

Review

This book provides an interesting look into the psyche of a typical mid-twentieth century woman. Although this mid-twentieth century woman does flip out half-way through the book, she nonetheless provides a fascinating case study for the unliscensed therapist. The Haunting of Hill House is a quick, interesting read. I recommend this book to all the slackers who wait until the last minute to read their learning package book and those who enjoy a horror/suspense novel. It took me all of three hours to get through this book. Take it to the bank, sign the back, and cash the check because this book is one high quality piece of literature.
