Review of Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper

Mark Twain’s timeless story tells of two children who look exactly alike…except one is a prince an the other a pauper. One day these two meet by chance, and decide that they would each prefer to have the other’s life. So, they secretly switch. They both enjoy themselves at first, but then realize that they actually did prefer the way things used to be. Although they have some difficulty explaining themselves to the royal court, things eventually work themselves out and the two boys once again live as they were meant to.

Review

Mark Twain’s sarcastic humor and down to earth writing style are abundant in this out of the ordinary novel. As most people think of Twain as a writer of American tales, many might be dissuaded from reading this book. However, I see this novel in the same class as Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. It is a relatively short book, and Twain’s light-hearted style makes it all the more enjoyable. Read this book to culture yourself in great American literature…if not just for the fun of it. Highly recommended.
