I finally went to some places, not by foot really. At the same time, I have come to realize how true the cliche is, "Life is a big travel". I guess, what I love the most about traveling is that I like to be a total stranger to a place, a culture, people and a situation, so that I could have a fresh eye and heart to face the world.
However, it takes me a long time to know that the best way of living is to have a fresh eye even when I am at the same old place. Meanwhile, I could also be traveling inside my mind. There are fire and glaciers together.

I feel grateful to be born in The
People's Republic of China, a complex country full of potentialities and
possibilities. It is obvious that China will gradually continue to strengthen
its role as a major player in the global arena in the twenty-first century.
This will be wonderful if China develops properly. However, it could become
a very critical situation. For example, if the Chinese government abuses
its power, the immense resulting inertia could bring incredible disaster
not only upon a billion-plus Chinese people but upon the rest of the world
as well.
I was fasting in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in late May 1989 as a University freshman. It was the first time that I really felt I could do something to help my Motherland. Nevertheless, it was also the first time that I recognized how hard that could be.
Besides obtaining both M.A. and B.A. degrees in Chinese language and literature, I have been fortunate to gain much experience by traveling. I have visited developing countries such as Burma and Rwanda (Click for an essay I wrote in Chinese: Bitter Sky) and developed countries such as Italy, Canada, and the USA as well. By contrasting and comparing those countries, I have adapted several different perspectives in thinking about economic and social development in a global sense.
In February 1998, I was honored to be a part of the first Chinese media team to visit Antarctica (Click for an article I wrote in Chinese: Take a walk in Antarctica)and I wrote scientific and environmental television reports about this incredible place. It was also in Antarctica that I came to a fabulous turning point in my life. I met my husband (Click for a funny story I wrote in Chinese) Then, Jamaica embraced me. The sun and the rhythm and power of the ocean there have given me a positive energy that continue to feed my soul. Most of all, my daughter was born there. She has been teaching me how to be an adult.
I have to say that living in the United States is a blessing. This is a place where I feel I have tremendous freedom to fulfill my potential. I have obtained a second Master's in Economic and Social Development, and worked intensively to pursue my goal--maybe it's everybody's goal--making the Earth a better place. At the same time, I am enjoying the fresh air, green grass and peaceful atmosphere of Pittsburgh, PA. In my heart, I am just a curious and naive child amazed by the morning dew.
