Akagi is the team captain of Shohoku and the older brother of Haruko. He is a responsible person and he always encouraged his team mate to do their best no matter how strong their opponents. His dream is to make Shohoku the no. 1 team in Japan. He taught Sakuragi how to play basketball. He is also known as Gori.
Name: Ryota Miyagi
Position: Point Guard
Height: 168cm.

Miyagi is the smallest among the members of Shohoku but he is also the quickest. He joined Shohoku team because of Ayako and always give his best shot in basketball to impress her. He punched Sakuragi when he saw him with Ayako because he thought that Sakuragi was trying to steal his girl (although the truth is Ayako is not yet his girlfriend!). Later the two players become good friends when they learned that they have the same fate when it comes to girls.^_^
Name: Hanamichi Sakuragi
Position: Power Forward

Sacred words of Sakuragi - "I'm a Genius... Tensai..." ^_^ Well actually it is a self-proclaimed title! (Other members of the team always called him "idiot".) He is funny, hot-tempered (if you displeased him, run as fast as you could coz he'll definitely give you a bump on the forehead!), good in fighting, quite childish, have a strong fighting spirit and of course he is in-love with Haruko (the problem - Haruko have a major crush on Rukawa), so Sakuragi always try to surpass Rukawa's ability in basketball in order to attract Haruko's attention.(so he never pass tha ball to rukawa). Oh, by the way, Sakuragi was dumped by 50 girls during his junior high. (poor man!)'o'. He played a vital role during their match against Shoyo and later become one of the strong member of shohoku.
Name: Kaede Rukawa
Position: Small Forward

Rukawa is very popular in their school because he is handsome and is good in basketball, that's why he have his own cheering squad (cool!) but he never acknowledge them since he doesn't care in his surrounding outside the court. He never thinks of anything else but basketball...basketball...basketball... He is a man of few words (when he will say something, it will be "idiot" and he always referred it to Sakuragi). He is considered as the Ace Player of Shohoku.
Name: Hisashi Mitsui
Position: Shooting Guard
Height: 184cm.

At first, Mitsui is a bad guy. His gang challenged the Shohoku team in a fight but of course they don't win. His notable quote to Coach Anzai - "I want to play basketball". He is actually a member of Shohoku team but due to an injury he was not able to play during a major game that changed him a lot. When he is in his 3rd year, after two years of not playing basketball, he joined again the basketball team and promised Coach Anzai that he will never fight again (He is a man with one word!) ^_^. Together with Sakuragi, he played a vital role against Shoyo team, the second most powerful team in their district. Through his three consecutive 3pt. shot he raised the spirit of Shohoku team that made them win the game! He is also known as Mr. MVP and Sakuragi called him Mitchie.^_^
Name: Mitsuyoshi Anzai
Position: Coach of Shohoku team
Coach Anzai is a man of few words like Rukawa. He is fat (well, its obvious! ^_^) and definitely he is kind (Sakuragi always stretched his face and he just stand there and smile! huh? unbelievable!)Well, Coach Anzai is a good coach since all his players looks up to him, he may only said a few words but those words are powerful enough to change the moods and make each player to show all the best they have in playing basketball.
Name: Ayako
Position: Shohoku's Team Manager
Ayako is a 3rd year student like Akagi, Kagure and Mitsui. She is the main reason why Ryota Miyagi joined the basketball team! She also taught Sakuragi the basics of basketball.
Name: Haruko Akagi
Position: Akagi's younger sister, teacher of Sakuragi (hehehe...), secret admirer of Kaede Rukawa (poor Hanamichi!)
Sister of Takenori Akagi, the team captain of Shohoku. She's a 1st year student like Sakuragi and Rukawa. She introduced basketball to Hanamichi and later persuaded him to join in the team. Like other girls in their school she likes Rukawa a lot!

Name: Akira Sendoh
Position: Shooting Guard
Height: 190cm.

Sendoh is Ryonan's future captain. Not only that, he is also the Ace Player in their team. He's a kind of player that no matter what the situation is, he still remain cool in the court. He is also good-looking like Rukawa. ^_^
Shoyo
Name: Kenji Fujima
Position: Point Guard and Coach
Height: 178cm.
Number: 04
Kenji Fujima is the only character in SD that have 2 major role. He is the Ace Player and at the same time the coach of Shoyo. At such a young age he became a coach because he have an amazing skills in basketball. He just sit in the bench as long as he see that his teammate can defeat their opponent. His dream is to defeat Kainan and his dreams shattered when he lost to Shohoku. He is considered as Maki's rival in basketball.

Name: Shinichi Maki
Position: Point Guard
Height: 184cm.
Number: 04
Maki is Kainan's team captain. He is good in basketball, in fact very good since they are always the champion. He is matured in his age, the reason why Sakuragi asked him if he is not a repeater since he really look so old. The tensai cannot believed that Maki is just 17 yrs. old! To everyone's surprise, Maki said that Akagi looks older than him. Well, maybe he's not that so serious after all, since he can ride with Sakuragi! ^_^ This event happened in the middle of their game with all the players of both team behind them and in front of a big audience! Well, it is Sakuragi's trademark! hehehe...^_^
