Summary: the true king of the underground mourns his lost chance at love
and life
The clock chimed distantly in her ears and suddenly in a rush of
time itself, she was gone. Gone, back to her regular life, gone, back to
another world where he would never be able to reach her again. This one
time had been pure luck and he knew it...it was luck that sent her the book,
it was luck that made her angry enough to say the words...and luck would
be with him no longer. She would be more careful, she would remember mostly
the terrifying experiences that she had had in the past thirteen hours,
never knowing that he was her intended.
So long...he had waited so long...almost an eternity itself, if it was
possible. It seemed lifetimes ago that he was cursed by the spell that was
his destiny as much as she was. Only she could break the spell, and now it
would never be, he was certain of it. It had been years upon years of
patience for him...he accepted what his kingdom had been turned into, a
nightmare of what had once been a paradise for fae of all sorts. He had
accepted the form he had been placed in, relishing the new feral part of
himself. But a part of him had always longed for her to come and free him,
to come and take her rightful place by his side.
And now it was too late.
He blamed himself...maybe if he had fought like the king he was and not
sent his guard to do his duty, she would have stayed. Maybe if he would have
tried to reason with her, she would have listened. After all, their love and
destiny was bound by the stars, by magic...
...but not by luck.
He told himself he would not sigh, he would not whimper or do any of the
things that were not of regal manner. She was lost to him...the love of his life,
Sarah Williams, was lost to him forever. He would never know happiness, but be
forced to stay in his dark kingdom, trapped forever. No magic, not even his,
was strong enough to change that. With a sigh he cast one longing gaze over the
throne room.
"I'm sorry, Highness," his loyal aid, Didymus, sighed. He had been with
him through it all, but it wasn't enough. Nodding, he sighed and turned to
leave the room.
"Ludo twy," the beast offered and he turned back to gaze at the faithful
creature with fond eyes.
"I'm s-sorry, your Majesty...I guess what I did wasn't enough," Hoggle
whimpered, fearful of the king's wrath. The dwarf was safe, though, he was too
sorrowful and too exhausted to be angry. Shaking his head, he started to exit
to his royal chambers.
"And I failed you as well, your Highness, and for that I am deeply sorry,"
Jareth, his advisor said and the king turned and nodded, uncapable of speech.
They had all tried, all of them. Jareth had even played the villain to the
maximum to get Sarah to be frightened and take comfort in the real king, but
none of it had worked. No, he would never be free from this form, or this
spell, and now he would never have true love.
With a heavy heart, King Ambrosious, ruler of the Underground and the
Labyrinth, silently left the room to go to his chambers and contemplate the
future. There would be plenty of it to contemplate.
The End.
