He was christened as John Karachi Yap Mosende.

He grew up in Mainit where he finished his elementary education at Mainit Central Elementary School. He started his secondaryeducation at Mainit National High School but eventually finished it at Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial High School in Cebu City.

He graduated from Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City with a baccalaureate degree in Psychology.
