TRIPLE FUN
This crazy game went to triple overtime. I
can't ask for anything better than this. When I don't root for either team,
I root for overtime. It happened when I was watching this year's Superbowl.
This happened exactly the way I wanted yesterday. Chauncey Billups put in a
half court three to tie it in the regulation. It was where all the craziness
started. Detroit does not seem to have the
intangibles to win games. To be a true great team, there should be some
exciting three point shooters, exciting explosive out-of-nowhere three point
shooters. Detroit has none, New Jersey has a bunch. I think Detroit does not
have a go-to guy either. Rip Hamilton seems to be their guy. He can
penetrate and pass down the lane to find shooters, but the thing is they
don't have any dependable outside shooters. Rasheed Wallace shoots threes,
but he is no shooter. Chauncey Billups is not a shooter either. I picked
Detroit to win this series. Now they are in deep trouble.
In wake of Derek Fisher's
crazy buzzer beating shot, I present this:
Best NBA playoffs game-endings I have seen (right on top of my
head) |
1. 1998 Finals, Bulls-Jazz, Game 6, Michael Jordan's last moment shot over
Bryan Russell
About 5 seconds left, Jordan with the ball, dribble
right on top of the post, fake right and stop, Bryan Russell slipped,
Jordan made the open look, Bulls won the game and the championship,
their sixth in eight years. |
2. 2002 West finals, Lakers-Kings, Game 5, Robert Horry's three
Kings up by one, Lakers had one last shot, missed, Vlade Divac could not
get the rebound, tip it away from the basket with a second on the clock,
hoping the ball would bounce away and game would be over, but the ball
landed on Robert Horry's hand, he made a three to beat the buzzer and
Lakers won, they went on winning the series in overtime game 7. |
3. 2004 West semis, Spurs-Lakers, Game 5, Derek Fisher's 20 feet shot with
0.4 seconds
No one can make a stand up shot with 0.4 second. NBA refs
pretty much anticipate that when there is less than 0.4 second it is
impossible to make a shot. Lakers down by one, Derek Fisher took the
inbound pass and threw it toward the basket, nothing but net... Lakers
won, and won the series in 6. |
4. 1999 West finals, Spurs-Blazers, Game 5, Sean Elliot's off balance Memorial Day three
pointer
Spurs down by two, with seconds left, Sean Elliot forced to
the sidelines, almost going out of bound, put up an off balance three,
and it was good, Spurs won, and went on to win the series 4-2. |
5. 1999 East finals, Knicks-Pacers, Game 4, Larry Johnson's 4-point
play to win
Knicks down by 4, Larry Johnson, a PF and not a three
point shooter, pull up and shoot a three, got fouled and one, made the
foul shot, forced overtime (not completely sure how it went), Knicks won
the game and the series in 6. |
